Best time to visit Vietnam

Vietnam is a very long country. Best to to visit Vietnam very much depends on where you want to go. Each part has completely different climate with different monsoon seasons. You can read the detailed weather description for each part of the country. To sum it up, if you plan to visit every part of the country during your trip you will have the most ideal weather between February and April in the whole country. May is still good as well, but weather might interrupt some of your plans.

Areas: Sapa, Mu Cang Chai, Ha Giang, Ha Long, Hanoi, Cat Ba

North Vietnam has 4 seasons. Summer (may-august) in North Vietnam is very hot and humid with many rainy days. You should avoid this time of the year since it can be a bit unpleasant. Winter (december-february) on the other hand can get too cold. There is even snow in the very north of country. Make sure you have proper clothes with you. If you don’t you can surely get some warm jackets in Sapa. Best time to visit north would be in autumn (september-november) and spring (march-april). The weatehr is very pleasant and relatively stable.

Areas: Dong Hoi, Phong Nha, Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An

Unlike north, central Vietnam only has 2 seasons. The summer months between July-August get be very hot and unpleasant. On the other hand, if you are coming for beaches winter months might be too cold. September till January is a rainy season here. To enjoy the most out of your trip come between February and July. Most days are sunny and temperatures are mild.

Areas: Ho Chi Minh city, Phu Quoc

Best time to visit south Vietnam is definitely November till April. It is dry season here. The beaches on Phu Quoc are at their best – calm and clean. Exploring the city is also rather enjoyable during this time. May till November is a rainy season. This part of Vietnam sees a lot of rain in this period. Many Phu Quoc beaches become dirtier as garbage from Mekong gets here. The sea is also quite rough.
