Visiting Kelingking beach - complete guide

Kelingking is probably the most famous and the most visited beach on Nusa Penida island. The landscape is spectacular with cliff in T-rex shape. The cliff itself offers an epic ridgeline with ocean on both sides. You can even climb all the way down to the beach and marvel at strong waves breaking at the shore.

Best time to visit Kelingking beach

Kelingking beach can be visited any time of the year! However it’s best to travel in this area during dry season to avoid rain ruining your plans. Dry season on Nusa Penida is between April and October, both being the should months.  I would highly advise you to come before 10am to enjoy the beach with less crowds.

Kelingking beach entrance fee

There is no entrance fee to enter Kelingking beach area. You only have to pay for parking which is 10k. If you come later in the day with a car you will likely have to wait for a parking space.

How to get to Kelingking beach

The best way to get to Kelingking beach is using a motorbike. You can find bike rentals mostly around the ports. Prices start from 80k per day. If you are not an experienced driver or a bigger group you can also rent a car with driver. To save some money you can simply join an organized Nusa Penida tour

Best Kelingking beach tours

If you are looking for an organized Nusa Penida tour I recommend some of the options below:

What to expect at Kelingking beach

The main viewpoint

Once you arrive at the parking lot you can simply follow the main path along some shops and restaurants. It will take you directly to the main viewpoint on the right side. There is a bamboo railing along the cliff. Be careful when stepping on edge not to slip. The cliff is extremely steep and dangerous.

The second viewpoint

There is one more viewpoint offering views of Kelingking beach from a different perspective. You can better see  the beach from there. From the main viewpoint follow the stairs going up. Turn slightly left and keep walking until you reach another viewpoint. This one is less crowded. There are no railings at all so be careful.

Hike down

It’s possible to go all the way down to the beach. The first half of the path follows the ridge and is rather easy. There are newly built stairs and proper railings. The other half is crazy hard. You exit the ridge and go down the cliff. The path is mostly rocks and dirt. It can be very slippery. There are bamboo railings most of the time. It is very steep. I would not recommend going down if you have some leg injuries or fear of heights. Going up is just as hard.

The Kelingking beach

If you dare to go all the way down you will be rewarded with a stunning beach. It is surroundned by huge cliffs. You can find some shadows under them. At the very end of the beach there’s a small cave too! Most of the time the ocean is not calm at all. There are very big and strong waves right at the shore. The currents are dangerous in this area. It is forbidden to swim here. Seeing the waves myself I would not even attempt to enter the water. Keep your distance from the ocean since sudden high waves might come.
