Best time to visit Dolomites

Spring is an in-between season. You can enjoy fewer people and lower prices. At the same time, however, expect that many attractions and hotels may be closed. There may still be snow in some places, so it is possible that some hiking trails will be closed. The same applies to mountain passes.

Summer in the Dolomites is an ideal time if you are going here for hiking. It is at this time that you can refresh yourself in many lakes. It’s a great time for camping or sleeping in the car/van. The temperatures are very pleasant. During the day it is hot in the sun, but at higher altitudes it can be cold in the evening and at night. Therefore, it is better to pack some warm clothes with you.

Autumn in the Dolomites is beautiful. The trees slowly change their color and your eyes won’t know where to look first. However, you need to prepare for colder days and changeable weather. In the higher areas, you may already encounter the first snow. The same applies to spring. Autumn is the low season. Expect lower prices and fewer people.

In winter, hiking opportunities will be somewhat limited. However, it is an ideal time if you are going skiing. You will find several ski resorts that will take care of an unforgettable winter vacation. Probably the most famous of them is Cortina d’Ampezzo. Don’t forget to pack plenty of really warm clothes. However, expect shorter days as well. And it is important to mention that some mountain passes may be closed. However, adorable villages full of wooden houses look like from a fairy tale under the snow cover at this time.
