Getting to city centre by bus and train - the cheapest option

There is a bus stop about 200 meters from the airport exit. In case you don’t know where it is don’t worry. Ask people and they will help you without problems. From there, bus number 365 will take you close to the Kurla train station. The bus ticket is really cheap and it cost around 20 INR (0.2€). You can buy bus tickets directly in the bus.

From Kurla train station you have to choose where exactly you want to go. You can either buy tickets in street stalls or you can buy them on the train station. Train tickets are really cheap. It’s only 10 or 20 inr (0,2€) for one ride. This option is the cheapest one and it’s not that difficult to navigate in the city.

You can also go by bus to Vile Parle Railway Station. You can go with lines: 2, 35, 39, 322, 330, 374 and 384. From there you can get city trains.

How to use Suburban rails

Once you get to train stations you can continue by suburban trains. Using local trains is very easy and cheap. You can easily navigate throught the city with the map of Mumbai Suburban Rail Network. Most of the best tourist attractions are easily reachable via suburban railway system. Trains go very often. Expect to pay around 10-20 INR for a ride (0.15-0.25€). Some trains can get very overcrowded especially during rush hours. It is very common to see a train so packed that people hang out of the doors (which are never closed by the way). In that case just wait for another connection. Make sure to get on the right carriage. The whole train is split into different sections.

Getting to city centre by taxi - more expensive

Taxi ride for maximum 4 people will cost you around 700 inr (9€) if you are planning to go close to Fort or Colaba districts of Mumbai. The trip can take between 1 or 2 hours depending on actual traffic in Mumbai. And since the traffic is crazy there you have to count with longer option. Be aware and don’t let taxi drivers fools you. If you are foreign they will always tell you higher price. If you don’t want to pay more we recommend to download Uber. With Uber you can see how much it should cost and you can even easily book your ride.
